Wood storage after Sweden's storm destruction

The "Gudrun" storm felled about 75 million cubic meters of wood in southern Sweden in the beginning of January in 2005. Like other forestry companies, Sweden's largest private sawmill VIDA Ab had to organise the raw material of its coming years with a fast schedule. The storage was arranged in wood stores made for the occasion.

Storage was started using a MANTSINEN 40RCT material handling machine. The objective was to reach a 3000 cubic meter loading capacity per day, by the end of May.

As the storage targets continually grew, more machine capacity was reserved later on for contracting.

In cooperation with VIDA Ab, Mantsinen contracting services optimised the use of machines so that the same unit was circulated between several terminals. Car transports were also centred on these.

Thanks to material handling machines fit for the task and to Mantsinen's know-how, Swedish contracting reached at best over 6,000 cubic meters per day per machine.

The total handling amount of the Gudrun project over five months grew to over 0,6 million cubic meters.
